About Kai

Christmas 1987

That’s me, age 8, with my little sister and my big sister somewhere in the background keeping us in line. I grew up in northern Canada which is very sunny but very VERRY cold. Dad was a paper salesman (he's an all-night classic Ford clanger-abouterer now). My mum was a veterinary nurse —which was awesome because we often woke up to a special furry guest curled up in the kitchen.

I was a tear-away type kid always looking to push beyond the limits!... I once went missing, and was found 9/10th of the way up a 90-feet sheer sea wall, on a windy day. To the astonishment of the dizzy-eyed beer drinkers peering over the top I casually climbed off and said, "hi". Summers were spent sea snorkelling, building bases under trees, and getting into the kind of trouble that energise the magic pages of those velvet dusty children's adventure books.

It was a perfect childhood in many ways, though my mum struggled with an alcohol addiction. She passed away when I was 21. Losing her was complex—I felt relief that the worry was over, but troubled in ways that are hard to explain. My dad struggled the most, but we were lucky to have my big sister and grandparents step in. During that time I learnt that everyone has lost someone. And that it's okay, because it heals you. My mother remains my biggest inspiration because of her kindness.

These days, my big sister lives in London with four kids, a husband, and various rodents. My little sis has made her way back to New Zealand via the US. I’m still in Canada, though I get to the UK now and then and love it there. I work part-time as an elementary school teacher, surrounded by creativity and imagination.

This little party supplies shop started by accident. I made a Nintendo-inspired printable "question mark box" for my students and shared it online. Suddenly, a hundred people had downloaded it and were making it! It was EXCITING and INSPIRING!

Fast forward 5 months and I now have this shop. People keep asking where I get the ideas? And I say I steal them from the kids I teach (It's not wholly true, but it's funny so I keep saying it 😅).

The paper crafts and books on this website are designed to be enjoyed by all ages, and spark the enjoyment of personalisation. They are ideal party bag fillers (favors) and gift books. Little sparkling stars of creativity that add a touch of last-minute party magic...

Thanks so much for stopping by and being part of this community. I hope this brings a LOT of bright colour and fun times into your day.
